Caution: Corrosion!

One of the sneakiest forms of damage that can happen to your plumbing unknowingly is corrosion.

Corrosion is a natural occurrence that effects all metals over time. It is more likely for corrosion to appear in places of high moisture or temperature.

Fun fact: Corrosion damages cost the world an estimated $2 trillion dollars each year!

So, how can you prevent damage like this from happening?

Corrosion is inevitable over time, but there are some steps you can take to push that time period further.

1. Applying Protective Coatings

By applying a barrier between the pipe and the atmosphere, you are lessening the likelihood of corrosion. Some of these protective coatings include paint, oils, and enamel.

2. Metal Type Choice

Metals that claim to be corrosion resistant are more likely to prevent the natural occurrence. Some of the best metals to prevent corrosion include any alloyed steel or stainless steel.

3. Galvanization

Galvanization also acts as a barrier for the pipe. It is a thin coating of zinc, which is known to keep corrosion away.
